FIFA 12 Tournament http://www.midnightriders.com/newsblog/news.php?entry=90 we have stop!

We are proud to announce the first ever Midnight Riders FIFA Tournament!

We will be holding the event at The Greatest Bar in Boston's North End on November 8 at 6pm and it will be benefiting both charities we have been working with this year, ThinkTaylor.org (Taylor Twellman's new head injury charity), and the Prescott family.

This will be a 32 player tournament, with prizes, food, and celebrity guest/players. This event will be 18+. Every player who pre-registers will also get a limited edition t-shirt made just for the event.

Register here.

In order for this to work though we are going to need some help from all of you. We already have a few Xbox360s, copies of FIFA12, and controllers, but we need a few more to make this run as smoothly as possible. We are also looking for people to help "referee" matches (and keep an eye on all the equipment). If you would be able to help with either of these things please email us at web@midnightriders.com and we will be setting up a meeting for all volunteers and coordinating with anyone letting us borrow equipment.

This event is open to all, so feel free to invite anyone you think would be interested.

Get your game straight and we'll see you at The Greatest Bar!]]>
9/11 Tribute and Parking Lot for today's http://www.midnightriders.com/newsblog/news.php?entry=89
In case you haven't heard the parking lot for today's game has been moved to the back of lot 5. This is where our lot was last year. You do not need to be a season ticket holder to get into the lot, just identify yourself as a member of The Midnight Riders and you should be all set.

9/11 Tribute

We will be honoring those killed in the 9/11 attacks at two points during today's game. The first will be during the national anthem. We will have the large American flag (BAF) to hold up over the fort. Then at 9:00 on the game clock we will go silent in memory of those that lost their lives. No songs from 9 to 9:11 (flags/scarves up). We will sing God Bless America at 9:11, and as soon as that's done we will have small "Never Forget" signs to hold up in silence until 11:00 on the game clock. Then it is back to normal singing chanting.]]>

ManU Tailgate Area http://www.midnightriders.com/newsblog/news.php?entry=85
As always, it starts in the parking lot. Not in our usual spot but in the back of Lot 5. Lot 5 is one lot over from where we currently tailgate and the same lot we used last season.

If you received a parking pass from the team, just drive past where you would normally turn to go into our lot and take the next right. Note: Your Midnight Riders Parking Pass is not vaild for this game. Parking is $40 for all non season ticket holders.

Even if you don't plan on parking in Lot 5 with us for the tailgate, please make your way over to grab your tickets as this is where your tickets will be if you selected "tailgate pick up."

Regarding Wednesday's Meeting http://www.midnightriders.com/newsblog/news.php?entry=84
All are welcome.

We do want the discussion to be as productive as possible, so we would like to reiterate a few points.

A) BE RESPECTFUL! We will get no where if this turns into a shouting/name calling match. We are meeting to make progress in the relations between the fans, front office, and security. Not make a personal statement. Please keep points of conversation relevant.

B) If you are not actually aware of what occurred do not assume or rely on reports from blogs or other media as there have been some gross exaggerations and also just flat out incorrect information.

C) Keep in mind the actual goal of this meeting. We want improved communication from the Front Office and better understanding of "supporter culture" by both the Front Office and TeamOps.

Feel free to use this post on the message boards as a sounding board to air any ideas or topics you would like to see on the agenda for the meeting. Please spread the word about this thread to fellow Riders. This is a very important time for the group.

Thank you.]]>

Support The Fort http://www.midnightriders.com/newsblog/news.php?entry=82
To be clear, the Midnight Riders are not demanding to be able to use PG-13 language in the Fort. Our serious concern is about the way this was handled by The New England Revolution, TeamOps, and the Foxborough Police Department. The Midnight Riders and Rebellion made a good faith attempt to encourage their members to stop the use of the chant in question, issuing a joint document, mentioning it on multiple occasions, and warning people in the Fort, during the June 18th game, both from the capo stand and in the stands. The Midnight Riders acted according to The New England Revolution's requests regarding use of the chant, but when the chant was not completely stopped, people were ejected, banned, and even arrested. This heavy handed handling of the situation (instead of working together to find a solution) is unacceptable, and has threatened the good working relationship between the Revolution organization and the supporters. We are in the process of solidifying a date for a meeting for all members of the Fort and New England Revolution front office members. We have requested that security representative be present as well. We will let you all know when we have further details. Thanks again for your support, and let's hope that we can work out these issues to everyone's satisfaction.]]>
Trivia Night to Benefit The Prescott Fam http://www.midnightriders.com/newsblog/news.php?entry=81
Below is a letter we received from family friend, and fellow Revs fan, Greg Gomes:

I write this letter on behalf of a dear friend of mine. For the past six years I have had the privilege of being a soccer referee, one of my colleges who I have refereed more than 50 games with has had some recent family troubles. Mike Prescott, has a young daughter Sam, she is 15 years old and was a fabulous soccer player when on the field for the FC Stars of Massachusetts. Sam was truly going to develop her skills into what could have been one of the best players that Central Massachusetts has seen in a long time.

Sam started her October off like any other year, Northbridge had just finished up their soccer season and Sam was on the Varsity girl's team, she then started practice with the FC Stars, and began refereeing at the same facility myself and her father Mike ref at. While refereeing one game same started to become ill, suffering from a seizure. Test after test and Sam remained her fun, outgoing self, just "plugging" along with the procedures.

To her dismay the Dr's had no explanation why she was having these seizures. Time had passed and Sam had begun to suffer from seizures again and she also suffered from extreme fatigue. A new Dr, and finally Sam had been diagnosed with an illness. Unfortunately for Sam it was terminal brain cancer. Again Sam is only 15 years old. I hope this letter will help the Midnight Riders with their event and I thank you for your time in reading this.

This event is 21 plus.

There will be free food, prizes for the winning team (teams limited to 5), and we will be raffling some items off as well. It's $20 (plus pay-pal fee) per person or $90 for a team of 5 (it's all for charity, don't be cheap).

Fort Bus To Red Bull Arena http://www.midnightriders.com/newsblog/news.php?entry=78
Arguably one of the best parts of the Revolution season is almost upon us: The Fort's invasion of Red Bull's laughable clubhouse of a stadium (ok, the new stadium is pretty epic and should be a great time). We have yet again successfully convinced some poor unsuspecting bus company to take us, our pride and our beer to and from New Jersey (well, the beer probably won't make it back) to see the mighty Revolution face Red Bull New York.

Some awesome details to tickle your naughty bits:

  • We can bring beer on the bus, in case that wasn't clear from before. We'll have a couple of coolers available to use, although probably won't hurt to bring more.

  • We guarantee the bus won't raid your fridge while you're away.

  • You don't have to be a Rider to join the bus party, this is a full Fort event. Riders, Rebels, Army and general Revs fans will all be together for this one.

  • 99 of 100 experts polled can prove the bus has wheels (the other 1 was Garrett).

  • We can leave our cars at Gillette Stadium, from where the bus will depart and return.

  • The bus may or may not be driven by Cloris Leachman. Only one way to find out.

Tickets are $45 for Midnight Riders members in good standing, $55 for non-members.

Price includes bus trip and game ticket

Buy tickets for the bus here

The bus will depart from Gillette Stadium at 10am on Friday June 10th and will return around 2-3am Saturday morning.

We will be hanging out at O'Donnel's Pub before the game]]>

Home Opener http://www.midnightriders.com/newsblog/news.php?entry=74 2011 Revolution Home Opener

Its that long-awaited time of year when the boys in blue take the field at the Razor for another season! In order to make sure you get the most enriching experience from the inevitable defeat of Baltimore United, we've got lots of fun planned! Read on!

Lots and Parking

If you are not already aware, there is a new parking setup for this season. They're putting both of the big supporters groups in our own lot so we can create maximum havoc! Members of the Riders will be there before the lots open so you know generally where we are parking. The Rebellion and we have decided to try to organically create our own collective tailgating zone between the two areas to have a central area of awesomeness and fun. Please keep an eye out for where this area is and try to avoid parking in the middle of it.

This is NOT a season ticket holder lot, but you will need a Riders parking pass to enter our area of the lot. Anyone who does not have a Riders parking pass will be able to park in the general tailgating area and just walk the 200 feet to join the party.

Membership

In the super mega awesome happy lucky #1 fun zone between the groups, there will be a table where you can sign up for a 2011 membership to the Midnight Riders. See the Assistant Membership Chancellor Ed Mulrenan who will be pretty-ing up this table and see if you can convince him to let you join (it won't take much, he's a totally rad dude).

Merch

Merchandise Mogul and all-around party animal Joe Butler will have a table where he will be shamelessly hocking (including, but not limited to):

     - The Midnight Riders Taylor Twellman charity scarves. These are $20 and all proceeds are benefiting Taylor's charity. It has his gorgeous mug on it, so you can't afford NOT to buy one!

     - 2010 Midnight Riders scarves. These are the snappy white scarves from last year, throwback homage to some of our early scarves, dedicated to the memory of Nick Katz. These are now available for the low-low price of $10 (811.3 Japanese Yen)

     - Compliments and positive emotional reinforcement. Cost: beer

     - Midnight Riders pint glasses, now on sale 2 for $5!

     - More!

Mayhem

While all of you animals can be trusted to cause a ruckus in the lots, we need to make sure to bring the house down when our boys are on the field. We have all sorts of ways prepared for us to do this on Saturday:

     - There will be Red White and Blue streamers for sale in the lots outside for $1 each. All the proceeds from these (aside from the awesomeness they will cause inside the stadium) will go to the Red Cross to help Japan in the wake of the recent disaster. Come find the table with the stunningly good-looking Zach Saffrin and buy as many as you can afford! Bring the streamers into the stadium with you and we'll coordinate times to throw them in a spectacular display of support for the team!

     - The Midnight Riders and The Rebellion will stage a singular loud-as-hell march into the stadium about 20 minutes before game time (around 4:10-ish). There will be 15- and 5-minute warnings so you can make sure to have everything together. There will be drums, noise, chanting, singing and probably the inevitable frightening of some of the more timid children on the way in. Have your voices ready!

     - When you enter the stadium, cram the front of the Fort. Every seat should be full, we should be shoulder-to-shoulder. If you see space in a row in front of you, move up! If there is a space between you and the person next to you, close it!

     - There will be balloons distributed in the seats of the Fort in preparation for the game. When you get in and find a seat, blow up your balloon a little bit and we are going to swing them overhead when the team takes the field before kickoff. Make sure your balloon gets popped when you are done! Those of you in the front row, not a SINGLE balloon can make it onto the field of play or we will get in trouble, so let's please all work together to celebrate appropriately.

     - When the national anthem is played, sing every word at the top of your lungs. America!

     - If you are bringing a drum, find the other drummers and stand near them so we can all keep the beat together. If you drum in sync, we will sing in sync and the entire stadium will join in.

     - When regular time ends (90' minute), for the remainder of the extra time of the game, take out your car keys and jingle them. We will also start a "Stand Up!" chant to get the whole stadium on their feet to finish up the game.

Chris Allen Tribute

Christopher Allen, affectionately known to many Revolution supporters as 'The Perfesser," passed away in February, 2011. Chris was a lifetime soccer fan and original member of The Midnight Riders. When not cheering from the back of The Fort, Chris could be found in his beloved Newburyport or at the Univ. of Georgia where he served as a distinguished professor for over 25 years where he often found ways to work the game he loved into his teaching of international affairs. Chris was a caring, genuine person, a friend to many, and will be missed dearly by the Riders and all who knew him.

The Revs will be holding a moment of silence before kickoff for Chris, and other season ticket holders who passed. We encourage everyone in The Fort to hold their scarves aloft for the moment of silence and tribute.

Respect

The Midnight Riders have heightened awareness of and will no longer tolerate racist and/or homophobic comments and slurs, including but not limited to those aimed at other supporters, the opposing team's players and staff, or the referee. Please try to enjoy yourself responsibly and respectfully to all our fans.

We also have multiple supporters groups, as you may have noticed. We are all here to support the team and will have different ways of doing so. Much the same as no two fans are alike, likewise no two supporters groups are alike, but this is what makes the New England culture so electric and awesome. We are extremely proud of our group and image, but that doesn't mean we should in any way doubt or attack anyone else's. Other supporters groups are indispensable partners in our support of the team, so let's make sure to treat our fellow supporter's groups with the same dignity and respect as we would any other loyal Revolution fan.

See you all Saturday! GO REVS!

Midnight Riders Debut New Logo http://www.midnightriders.com/newsblog/news.php?entry=64
After 15 years The Midnight Riders have decided to update our logo. Following design input from members and discussions on our message boards, we have chosen this for our new logo. The logo retains what we feel is the most important element of the old logo while giving it a new improved look.

Commenting on the new design, Alan LaValley, 15-year Midnight Rider said "The new design was a response to members feeling it was time for change, while preserving the rich tradition of the group. We had a great exchange of ideas in the redesign process, using the Rider message boards to post concepts, critique design elements, and end with a logo that was a terrific collaboration of members old and new. Key changes include maintaining the core rider and horse from the original, but featuring it in white on midnight blue for greater visibility. In addition, it puts the group name out front and center, and transplants the clip art soccer ball with the much more fitting established year. A final touch, a star for each of the six New England states, rounds out the new design. Hopefully the new logo stands the test of time and heralds an era of success for the team."]]>
2010 Man of the Year http://www.midnightriders.com/newsblog/news.php?entry=61
Unlike the past few years where the event has taken place in the stadium pre-game, this year's event will be taking place during the pre-game Midnight Riders tailgate, somewhere around 6 to 6:30 (not sure of the exact time).

We'd like to have a good number of members at the tailgate in order to give the winning player his proper due, so we hope that if you're not regularly there early for a tailgate, you will do your best to do so this weekend. Please note, with this weekend's game at 8pm, the tailgate should begin at 5:30.

The presentation will be recorded by the Revs and is supposed to be shown on the DiamondVision at some point in the game.

Thank you!

The Midnight Riders are selling tickets for the game at $20 each (through PayPal, and including PayPal costs), and we'd like you to join us. This offer is open to everyone, you don't have to be a member of the Riders to purchase tickets.

More details about the trip will come at a later date to those who are going to the game. We will NOT be tailgating, as there's really no spot to do so, but we are in communication with a bar near the stadium to host our traveling party.

Buy your tickets now at the Midnight Riders Shop. Tickets will be held at will-call under the name of the account holder who PayPals us.

24 Hours Of Soccer for Charity http://www.midnightriders.com/newsblog/news.php?entry=59

From their site: "We're going to play soccer barefoot for 24-hours straight to help prevent AIDS in Africa, and we'd like you to join us. Don't worry, you don't need to play all 24 hours, but we would like you to play for an hour or two. We're playing barefoot in solidarity with African children who can't afford shoes. The event is open to all players 4th grade to adult. Games will be small-sided and coed, with younger players playing with kids their own age. The event will be held at the Hunnewell Fields in Wellesley, Massachusetts, beginning at 4:00 pm on Friday, September 3, and continuing until 4:00 pm on Saturday, September 4. Rain dates are September 4 and 5."

They are looking for people to fill the Midnight - 4am range so if you can play then that would be appreciated. We also encourage players to wear your Riders/Revs gear.

Raffle Deadline Extended http://www.midnightriders.com/newsblog/news.php?entry=58 Raffle for August 14th Game Package http://www.midnightriders.com/newsblog/news.php?entry=57 Hello everyone,

Thanks to the kindness of one of the members of the Midnight Riders, we have been given a great chance to increase our donation to the Jenny Katz Scholarship Fund, but we need your help to do so.

Stephen Rhoads won the Comcast SportsNet New England (CSNNE) World Cup Pool and has donated his winnings to the Riders to raffle off. So for $5 a ticket (plus PayPal costs), you can not only help out a good cause, but also win:

  • 4 tickets to the Revs home game against Houston on August 14, an 8pm game. The tickets are in Section 108, Row 17 (near midfield).

  • A $150 Gift Card to the CBS Scene.

  • Transportation to/from the stadium. This is dependent on where the winner lives. If the transportation isn't feasible, CSNNE will throw in a replacement prize (Pro Shop gift cards or something equivalent)

Thanks to CSNNE and the Stephen Rhoads for the donation.

This raffle is open to everyone, not just members of the Midnight Riders. We hope that you'll help spread the word on this as well, trying to get as many people as possible to join in on the raffle. How often do you get a chance to win a prize valued easily over $500 for just $5 a ticket?

Tickets can be purchased here: Raffle Tickets in the Midnight Riders Shop.

The winner will be notified on the 6th of August.

Benfica/Cruzeiro Friendly Tickets http://www.midnightriders.com/newsblog/news.php?entry=53

The Midnight Riders, working in conjunction with the New England Revolution, are proud to announce that we will be offering discounted tickets for the Revolution's two summer friendlies that are coming up. Please note, any tickets purchased through us are are for the Fort sections only. We really would like to request that the only people buying tickets through these two sales are Revolution fans, as the Fort is the Revs Supporter's Section. Obviously, we can't limit ticketing, but we'd really like to not cause issues by having opposing fans in the wrong section.

The first game is Wednesday, May 19th against Portugal's Primera Liga winner Benfica at 8 pm at Gillette Stadium. Then, Sunday, June 13th, the Revolution take on Brazilian powerhouse Cruzeiro (7 pm) also at Gillette Stadium.

Discounted tickets for the Benfica match are $35 (not including PayPal charges) and must be paid through PayPal only to the Midnight Riders by May 17th at 5pm. Discounted tickets for the Cruzeiro match are $25 (not including PayPal charges) and must be purchased by June 9th at 5pm. Tickets can be purchased at

If you have any problems with your board login email web@midnightriders.com.]]> Donation to Nick Katz Scholarship Fund http://www.midnightriders.com/newsblog/news.php?entry=40
His family has set up a scholarship fund in the name of Jennifer (Jenny) Katz and the Riders would like to send in at least $1,000 as a group. The Midnight Riders Charity Board has approved the donation of $250 to start up the fund and we're hoping members will help us raise the rest. We know times are tough for everyone, but we do hope that people will think of Nick, his wife Kathryn and 10-year old Jenny and donate something.

You can either donate directly at the Midnight Riders site, or send a check to the Midnight Riders, PO Box 690264, Quincy, MA 02269. We'll also be collecting donations at the end of season party at the Banshee on January 16th. We'll be collecting money through the end of January, and will hand over our group donation in early February.

As you might have seen in the obituaries, the Midnight Riders group meant a lot to Nick. Please help us as we try to help his family going forward.

Thank you,
Monty Rodrigues
President, Midnight Riders Inc.

In any event, checks need to be made payable to the Midnight Riders, Inc. in order for this to work. The Midnight Riders, Inc. can then send a check to the Jenny Katz scholarship fund at the appropriate time.

Nick Katz, 1964-2009 http://www.midnightriders.com/newsblog/news.php?entry=37

The Midnight Riders are saddened to inform you that one of our members Nick Katz passed away on Monday night. He was only 45. He leaves behind his wife and child.

We are awaiting information on funeral arrangements, and will pass them along as we get them.

The Riders Board will be sending an arrangement of flowers in our group's name to his family as well.

The plan is currently to set up a donation to either his favorite charity in his name, or to donate money to a scholarship fund for the kids, coming from the Riders (more details to come). Even though Christmas is just a couple of days away, we do hope that all of you will be willing to help in some small way to a general contribution from the Midnight Riders. We'll most likely be accepting donations through the Riders site itself, or in person at the End-of-year party on January 16th.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Nick's family.

RIP Nick. You'll be missed.

RBNY Bus Trip 3/28/09 & 2009 Memberships http://www.midnightriders.com/newsblog/news.php?entry=4

We are also happy to be able to offer the same rates as we did for last year's trip, $55 for 2009 paid Members, $75 for non-members (plus fee if bought online). That would include the bus ticket, as well as the game ticket. To make things more enticing for people … if you join the Riders for the 2009 season and get your bus money in (in full), the cost drops to $45 per person, a $10/person saving … but only if you are fully paid up by December 31st. Please note, a single member can bring one extra person at his/her rate. A family member may bring up to three extras (for a total of four people).

Memberships and Bus Trip spots are now available in the shop.

2009 Applications to join the Midnight Riders are available here.

We don't know the location of the tickets yet, so will not be selling game only tickets at this point. But the bus is currently scheduled to depart from the Riverside T Station at 10am on the 28th, giving us a nice long tailgate at the Meadowlands, and heading back 30 minutes after the game. If there's enough interest, we're willing to find a second location for a pickup (possibly in Connecticut).

As done in the past alcohol will be allowed on the bus, but not in bottles (bottles poured into plastic cups is allowed).

Please remember, the bus reservations (as always) are first come first serve. To make things easier, payments WILL be accepted at the Midnight Riders End of Season Party on Saturday, December 20th at DJs at the Garden in Boston.
